Using Internet Marketing to Make Fast Money: Using Internet Marketing to Make Fast Money
Nothing is more exciting than starting your own Internet marketing business. So much to do, so much to learn, so much to...well, face it, th...
@pennydesouza what Bill hicks is on about is the kind of marketing that uses/links peoples core beliefs and values to a product so that they identify with it and buy it. its far beyond mere commerce. you should check out a documentary called century of the self, which explains what im talkiong about alot better than i did, and also gives historic examples of this happenning.
peace
@tripfunkmonster I think that the majority is good: Especially that which helps small business and makes good use of market research to find the interest of the customer. I do see what you mean though, thanks for your comments and advice, I’ll be sure to avoid the negative side of marketing.
@leemoody93: Yes, I understand what you are saying. Not all marketing is bad, but most is, and I’m addressing that point. An entire (huge) industry has developed around marketing and they not only don’t have people’s interests in mind, they actually prey on people. By manipulating peoples’ feelings, such as fear and envy, they are taking advantage of weaknesses instead of trying to help their fellow man. I know that might sound corny to some people-but it’s important to many others.
It’s amazing how people like Bill Hicks get ignored while half the earth’s population believes everything in the niverse was hand made by a supreme being in exactly 6 days. Without any evidence what so ever. In fact that’s not amazing, that’s mind boggling
@leemoody93 i see where you’re coming from, your dad letting people know about his product is totally fine, but Hicks is talking about marketing for the sake of marketing, people who dont create anything, but just try their hardest to sell whatever shit they are told to sell. Marketing is most certainly not the ‘back-bone of our way of life’. Alot of the marketing industry is just an annoying middleman who wont shut up, more like osteoporosis than the back bone to our way of life.
@pennydesouza your analogy makes some sense, but i think you’ve missed the point a little. Bill is talking about marketing which has the sole purpose of trying to convince people to buy things which they do not need in any way, and has no real value-”bile and garbage”
Also, its not like people need marketers to let them know about certain things. i’m sure people would know about peas wihtout any marketing scheme. They grow naturally . i sure people wouldnt be ‘hungry and poor’
@tripfunkmonster I do see your point, I do, but marketing is necessary. Take my fathers business for example, he manufacturers and sells horse boxes here in the UK. A lot of people have jumped into horsebox manufacturing to make quick money regardless of the customer, selling inadequate and even dangerous products. My dad’s business makes very good quality products at the same competitive price. Without marketing customers wouldn’t find him. Surely you see that marketing isn’t all bad.
@leemoody93:”backbone of our way of life”?Advertising is not necessary-despite what advertisers say.Do you think people woudn’t be able to find the necessary things in life without marketing?Or even the unnecessary things? It’s a tool to manipulate people’s behavior as a way to make money, not to mention making everything more expensive. If people didn’t waste their lives in marketing, they could apply themselves to other, more necessary things.I guess it’s a matter of having priorities.Good luck.
I’m puzzled – what exactly is wrong with marketing? If frozen peas are grown by A, processed by B before being marketed to C then C gets something to eat and A & B make money. If C never knew about the peas everyone would be hungry and poor. It is so boring, depressing and tiring to hear this mindless audience applauding something they haven’t paused to consider properly.
Why do comedians like Stewart Lee etc. venerate this guy so much? I’m not v. impressed.
@TheMichaelBB Shut up marketer. People like you further degrade this world with your marketing scheming ploys. Your final goal is become one of those CEOs of large fortune 500 corporate companies, or less, be an associate of that sort. You value power yet you lack wisdom so your missing the point. This was why you did not find the video funny or much less educating. Regain your humanity now..
@tripfunkmonster and @godsvayne A little dramatic don’t you think? Marketing is a required aspect of business, of economy, and as such could be considered the back-bone of our way of life.
@conterooski No shit man. Dane Cook has never ever been funny on his own. He needs to steal peoples material at every turn.
I never would have found out about Bill Hicks if it wasn’t for marketing. :-/

‘marketing which has the sole purpose of trying to convince people to buy things which they do not need in any way’.
I agree that perhaps this type of marketing should be criticised – and is often pretty predatory and grotesque.
The problem is that while you draw the distinction well, I don’t think Hicks does.
@wasguan Sweeheart, the peas represent commerce, which has everything to do with marketing. Please don’t contribute if you don’t understand.
@pennydesouza.. it has nothing to do with peas.
Classic.
@leemoody93: Good luck.
